Spark Innovation | Solve Problems | Share Knowledge

The 2019 OA Hackathon will focus on enabling Arrowmen to integrate problem solving and technology to meet the 21st century requirements of the Order of the Arrow.

#HackOA

Registration Details

Participant registration fee of $295 includes 4 nights dorm lodging (in UIUC's newest residence hall!) and all meals beginning with dinner on Wednesday, June 26 through breakfast on Sunday, June 30. A $100 deposit is due at the time of your registration, and all fees are due by May 1. After May 1 the registration fee increases to $325 and the $100 deposit becomes nonrefundable.

All participants must have a valid BSA ID number and current Youth Protection Training date. Registrations will be electronically approved through this system by the lodge adviser and council scout executive. Registrations for this event are done individually and not by a lodge contingent. We strongly recommend the individual attending submit their own registration using their own NOAERS profile.

Transportation

Unlike a NOAC, group transportation from the area airports to UIUC will not be centrally coordinated, but we will provide contact information for various shuttle providers who service the area. We encourage lodges and sections to coordinate their own group travel plans.

Program Tracks

Participants should self-select a program track as outlined below. It's okay to change tracks later if you want, but for now please make a selection that best fits your interests and experience so that we can plan for session and activity capacities.

  • Novice: “Novice” delegates will focus on experiences and learning new skills, both in technical and in leadership aspects. They will compete in an innovative display and have the opportunity to earn merit badges and possible requirements for Supernova awards. No experience necessary!
  • Intermediate: “Intermediate” delegates will spend half of the program gaining similar technical and leadership skills and then will compete against each other in a typical hackathon. They will be given 24 hours to solve a problem through technological efforts to mitigate a realworld issue within our Order. These Arrowmen should have some exposure to computer programming before arrival.
  • Advanced: “Advanced” delegates will have the option to work together in teams made up of Arrowmen with varying technical knowledge to brainstorm and develop solutions to prompts. This will be the more typical hackathon program, spending most of the program creating these solutions. Arrowmen in this track should know how to code in multiple programming languages.
